While Giethoorn does have roads, it's main "street" is only a canal and a sidewalk. And yes, the Dutch still cycle a lot

Flowergirl, those sure called "pathways"or "paths." Common parlance indicates one is for cars ("roads"), and foot-only routes are known as States above, to give only a couple of those foot-only route nsmes. (Whew!)

This is an urban myth. There are plenty of roads in Giethoorn. That's how they get the dozens of buses full of Chinese tourists in.
