I learned typing on a Remington at high school. I was as slow as a wet week. I would have rather done technical drawing, but girl’s weren’t allowed, however boys could learn typing.. Go figure!

I took typing in high school. I was the second worst typist in the class; I had a crush on the fellow who was the worst.

What a great invention, although my typing classes in school never paid off. I just couldn't type without looking at my hands! 😳

I love typing. I was a clerk/typist for 25 years. Still love it.

I learned on a manual typewriter, sat and achieved my Pitmans elementary, medium and advanced certificates which was 50 words a minute! Slow in computer keyboard times nowadays! But at least they don't have to change the ribbon!

I learned to type on my elder sister's Remington while I was in high school, using only two fingers. But when Microsoft came out with the first Windows, I learned to type the proper way, i.e., without looking at my hands, with a software called Typing Tutor, which told you your speed and accuracy after each sub-level and telling you your progress at the end of each level.

Dman, yes it’s amazing that just 150 years ago there weren’t even typewriters. How far we’ve come. I hope it’s mostly for the better.

Electric razors on 1874? Why so many people answer that?

I researched and taught keyboarding in an elementary school in 2014. Created my own curriculum because online versions weren’t sophisticated enough. 7-8 years old is the optimum time to learn keyboarding. Younger hands are too small to reach all keys. 2nd-4th graders have the quick mental flexibility to master it quickly. After six months my best students typed 30wpm with only one class per week. Above the expected national average. School introduced keyboarding to give 3rd and 4th graders an advantage on state tests which are all online and contain essay questions.

If I’m not mistaken, as unbelievable as it may seem, the world’s fastest typist was a guy who used the two-finger method.
