I have lived in Monterey County all of my life. Artichokes are my favorite veggie, and the fried artichokes are delicious. I miss living in Monterey,and all of the beautiful area.

I grew up in Northern California and was taken aback when my college dorm mate didn’t have a clue what an artichoke was (I went to university in Upstate NY)... didn’t realize how spoiled I was growing up with great produce in CA.

Ash, i grew up in Syracuse went to Cornell, never ate an artichoke till i moved to California. nor an avocado hahaha. Yes produce in CA is out of sight.

artichokes are yummy! But my sister's mother in law, who was born and raised in Ohio, had no idea how to eat them when she visited my sister's family in the 1980's. I enjoyed teaching her how to eat one. A friend likened eating one to having sex because you keep getting closer to the prize - the artichoke heart

It Figures! They’re good I guess and us Californians can’t have all the prettiest things! The prettiest people, great weather, the coolest state animal 🐻 & flower etc., so I guess it’s ok we have the Ugliest veggie! I was kinda hoping it was spinach cuz I love any spinach dip!!

Ash, lived in upstate NY for years...bought fresh and jarred 'chokes all the time. Your upstater must have been an outlier. NY state doesn't grow bananas, either, yet they are everywhere.

Some are allowed to grow and bloom. Knotts Berry Farm has some that were just their large thick leaves bushes with the flowers in full bloom in purple.
