While I was stationed at the Army base, Schofield Barracks, HI, I had the distinct honor to reenlist on the USS Arizona Memorial. During my Reenlistment Ceremony, it was customary to raise our American Flag and fly her for about a minute, lower her down and fold her properly. I still have that Flag today. Thought I would share my best memory of The USS Arizona. Thanks for your time.

LordMetalBeard, thank you Sir for your service. My Father was a Korean War Veteran, he passed on Dec 24, 2017. I was very honored by the respect the military showed my father and us. He was Army and his brother was Navy. I still remember family dinners 😊

The USS Enterprise earned 20 battle stars during WWII. So yes, there was a real ship in service. Not a pretend spaceship.

Thanks to all who served and were injured or made the ultimate sacrifice. I had the honor to visit the memorial while our ship stopped in Hawaii on our way to Japan. Very moving and humbling. I also visited ground zero in Nagasaki, another moving experience, as was the Vietnam memorial in D.C.

EruditeSpermologist, I had the opportunity to visit Hawaii in 2008. Pearl Harbor was one of the highlights of that visit. We went out to see the USS Arizona. It was a very emotional experience. I also had an opportunity the speak and take pictures with 3 survivors of the attack.

I was in Hawaii at Christmas time one year and took the USS Arizona tour. There was a group of Japanese nationals on a tour ahead of us who were holding a very solemn ceremony at the site. A few were crying as they laid a large wreath in the water. It was very touching. It made me think that is sad for all sides of the conflict. The only winner is death.
