I would love to visit New Orleans for Madigras. I'm sure that's not how you spell it but to be able to experience that and then think about this bit of History I just learned would take me back in time.

I live it the greater New Orleans area. I am 20 minutes from the heart of the city. There is no place on earth like it. It's unique and my home. I survived Katrina and rebuilt. I was pregnant. jobless, and homeless overnight. We got back up and rebuilt and are stronger for all we went through. I will never be able to call anywhere else home. We have a party for anything and a festival every weekend. Les e le bon ton rouler!

EarthAngle2017, Me as well. Although I have been there several times my brother Craig and his beautiful wife Karen don't live too far away. The food and drinks are out of this world! I have always been a fan of Jazz music we (all three of us) my brother and sister Janice were all raised in a Jazz household. 1 more thing to add to my bucket list!

The Jazz from the NBA were originally from New Orleans. Maybe they should pick a new name now… How about “The Polygamists”?

June, Exactly!! I love N.O. but the Only time I Won't go is Mardi Gras. I went one time and that was enough for me! Too many people, drunk people, and too few bathrooms. I hated it! There was a riot when we went and cops on horse back cut their way through the crowd. We were repeatedly crushed up against the buildings before we could get away. This was the Sunday before M.G day. That Wed. I stayed back in Picayune at my friend's grandparents house because I didn't want any part of that nonsense. I watched the news that pm & saw that several tourists got their hands cut when trying to collect parade booty from the ground. Apparently some hooligans out razor blades on their shoes specifically to do this. Go to N.O. another time _ it's great: Jazz Fest, Halloween, At. Pat's..any time but Mardi Gras.

Loup Garou, Yep, Mardi Gras is a month of celebration before the month of abstinence that is Lent. It ends on Fat Tuesday and Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. You party hard for 30 days then repent for 30 more, which is okay because it takes that long to get rid of your hangover.😂🤟

AppleA815, Yes. What’s “interesting” is despite the major contributions by Blacks to New Orleans/Louisiana culture, the discrimination/racism against Blacks in NO is abysmal. The neighborhoods… STILL mostly segregated. Hurricane Katrina put it in perspective (for me) when black communities were the hardest hit, the last evacuated, and the slowest to rebuild. I’m aware that our country as a whole is anti-black. But the contributions by blacks to the Louisiana culture is touted so prolifically that, IMO the racism is all the MORE galling,, and bitter to swallow. But I am hopeful that good (REAL) Christian people from ALL races and ethnicities will unite to usher in change.
