Player Freewoman, yes the English upper class took all the crops & the top produce that Ireland grew or cultivated. The introduction of the disease that destroyed the potato crops has been suggested as being accidental, but the realisatiin that this would reduce the population so that this was less of a drain on the crops that were available, hence the reason why many emigrated, either that or slowly starve to death.
