North western Australia has a monsoon too. In Darwin it starts in December. It heralded our Christmas holidays and was great fun for us as children. Darwin gets about 1500 mm of rain (3/4 of annual) in December to February months, and 500 mm (1/4) for the other nine months. These are rough figures.

I spent a little over two years on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Some of the most carefree days of my life. Those monsoons are something else. You could set your watch by them They arrived, @ 2:00 pm every day for about two months. The heaviest rain I've ever seen. Wish I could go there again.

Glendal3granny, the monsoon inn Arizona used to be determined by having three days with the dew point being above 55°F. we have also had some monsoons with no rain; those were called a nonsoon.🤪

-==-, Urdu was used as a trading language between Arabs, Persians, Turkish, Hindus and other traders in the Southeast Asian region. So, it has many words which are from these languages. Thus, the author stating that it is from Arabic is accurate. As Mausam has been derived in Arabic language and then Urdu. It was later, acquired by Hindi as most of the people speaking Hindi do find Urdu to be more refined, elegant and use it as formal language. The pronunciation is very similar to Arabic, Persian and Turkish. Plus it has a respectable element which leaves the audience in awe.
Additionally, Urdu is not the same as Hindi so the stroke is usage should have been avoided. It’s as incorrect as if we write down Italian/Spanish. Similar doesn’t mean the same. Thank you .
