MT used to have no speed limit till 1999. Started when Nixon passed Energy Conservation law in 1974, reducing speed to 55mph w/ no funding for roads if states did not comply. MT basically told the Feds to shove it by making it a $5 fine for “unnecessary waste of a natural resource.” Clinton reverts this law in 1995 back to “a rate of speed no greater than is reasonable and prudent.” Rudy Stanko fights the Supreme Court for a $70 speeding ticket in MT and they decide “reasonable and prudent” is unconstitutionally vague, so speed limits are now set to 75mph max in 1999, raised to 80mph in 2015.

I love SH 130. I live and work in Pflugerville, but my in-laws live in New Braunfels. This cuts the drive time by 40 minutes.

Gary, that's right. They had to adopt the 55 mph in the 70s in order to get federal funding. To my knowledge, they never enforced that, but they had to post it!

I visited a friend in central Ohio about 5 years ago. We drove across town for dinner and I thought the buildings were going by pretty fast for a 45 zone. She was doing 80 and cars were passing us. I just shut my eyes and prayed.

constantgamer0421, Texas is VERY large with thousands of roads. When you say many are bumpy, you could also say many are smooth as well. it is difficult to maintain that many roads so that they are ALL great ALL the time. Some need work, I admit, but for the most part the highway department does a pretty good job of keeping up. Texas is a great place, especially if you like warm weather and friendly people.

You all are aware that by raising speed limits it increases the chances when if you happen to get into an accident, you will not survive the impact. Especially if a semi is behind you, but even at 50 mph you wouldn't survive.

constantgamer0421, it's because of the Texas heat in the summer months. Warps the roads so they buckle.
