My great grandma worked for the Bulova watch making company in the 1930s. They gave her gold or a gold plated watch inscribed with her name on it when she retired from their company in New York. I don't know how long she worked for them though.

Note that the term 'perpetual' in the context of watches, often seems to refer to the automatic mechanism for adjusting the date for different days per month and for leap years, i.e as opposed to the self winding mechanism powered by wrist movement.
