I'm curious about how it came to be that somebody just up and decided to make soup out of a bird's nest. I mean, how does that happen? Some hungry chinamen sitting around playing the "Super Bowl" of Ma Jong & all of a sudden one says "throw me a cold one & gimme a bite of that bird's nest - I'm starving".

bigfish92946, so much human behaviour needs to redefined globally morals are askew depending on culture etc some of the stories I hear from time to time are shocking. When I see the footage especially of what’s going on with wet markets I feel it so deeply I detest visiting pet stores for this reason too. I hate seeing neglect or violence towards animals or other humans for that matter.

Tina, The actual nest is deconstructed to a gelatine like substance in a soup. The 'bird nests ' you may have seen (like small baskets) are actually made of deep fried sliced and reconstructed potato.
