The Dark Knight was dark, ugly and dystopian. When leaving the movie theater, I felt like I was covered in slime and thinking I should kill myself. I have not watched any of the later movies. Give me Adam West and the Batman series on TV in the 1960s. It was funny and over-the-top entertaining.
