Which name was given to an upper chamber in a medieval house?

The four poster bed was the original private space for the lord and lady while they slept surrounded by the minions, plus it kept the bugs from the thatch roof falling on them. Not so sure the main smells were from cooking though, bathing was thought to be harmful and there were open pots or buckets for urination (which was then used for tanning) and a nearby midden for rubbish and defecation, food scraps were thrown on the floor which was not cleaned that often, there were always untoilet trained dogs around and if cold other livestock.
