I lived in Japan from 1978 to 1980. In the contract for the house I was renting, there was a clause prohibiting wearing Street shoes in the house.

My family have always done this when visiting. If you think about what’s on the floor, all the germs etc, people spitting, animals doing their business on the path ,grass everywhere you walk !!
