In what country were the first miniature toy trains manufactured?

When I was a little boy, I wanted a Lionel train set so badly. Ma got me a set made of tin, four cars, they went in a small circle. Just holding one car from a Lionel set, was so heavy and smelled wonderful. They were keen on detail as well. My tin cars were painted! When I received that set, I began to grow up. My innocence began slipping away. I was so disappointed. Actually, I never knew anyone who owned a Lionel set. You needed a whole room to set one up. Cary Grant movie, "People Will Talk" comes to mind. There were no kids in that movie. Adults were playing with the trains.

I had a big Lionel train system when I was little. Well made and heavy. Would be worth so much today and a joy to my grandchildren.
