I remember the tears in my eyes on hearing this magnificent music for the first time. I thought " There is no need for anyone to compose anything more, this is the ultimate in music, the last word". I was young then, but at 74 I am still filled with emotion every time I hear the 9th.

I love Beethoven!I wonder what he would think of the lyrics to his symphony. I think the words are perfect for it. He always strikes me as a picky person.

EgregiousGoal34250, Hitler would agree! I am not Jewish but the anti-Semitism I see in that country is terrible. People openly say cruel things about the Jews in Austria. After such a violent past of trying to exterminate many groups of people, I would think the Austrians would be at least somewhat apologetic rather than wishing the job would have been completed. They bear just as much responsibility as the Germans.
