I thought that Porphirea was a faulty recessive gene on the XY chromosome which wouldn't normally be inherited... and only men normally are victims to this, just like haemophilia. Inbreeding allows the genetic defect to continue. The Royal family have at last started to marry people who are not already related to them, so diseases like porphyria will be very unlikely in future.
