Jo, there was a moment in the eighties (if I recall) where leaders of eastern Canada suggested that BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan might want to go ahead and join the US. I don't know what the issue was, or if this was a common sentiment--I was a young teen. I just remember thinking how cool it would be if BC (I'm a Washingtonian) joined us! I figured if the rest of Canada didn't want them, come on over! But it's probably better they all worked it out.
