I suffer with sleep apnea, after tests I was told I stop breathing 20 an hour for the equivalent of 3 breaths, luckily I now have a CPAP machine which helps me breathe and sleep better

RushMama2112
My husband has it. He's slept with a CPAP machine for almost 30 years.

Jonesy,
You only get it spelled correctly if you have a device/ keyboard which provides diphthongs as the o and e are joined.
I suffer from it during sleep . When I was admitted to hospital for gallstones/ liver infection (?) I had to have my CPAP machine brought in .
When the consultant asked my medical I ran through the list : hypopituitarism , diabetes , macular degeneration, etc . He said I left the most important one out and I didn’t know what he meant. He pointed to my pump and said that one!

I don't know apnea. What is this vele

Kiki
dilli, I have 'central' sleep apnea which is not because of obesity or other obstruction, but because my brain forgets to make me breathe when I'm asleep. Without a Bi-PAP, I could die in my sleep of respiratory failure.

Dorothy, the new ones are whisper quiet and have incredible temperature control. They can take it anywhere from off to 90+ (F) Maybe you should look into it again. I was so worried but it's amazing now

Dorothy
I was thought to have that but. the c-papp was not for me it was too cold.

Technically, apnea is a condition of not breathing at all, whether it is temporary such as in sleep apnea, drug overdose, alcohol poisoning, etc. if it lasts long enough, then it causes death.

Jonesy, it's the same word different spelling correct either way but the Greek word where it comes from is apnoia

Jonesy
I have sleep apnoea and use a CPAP machine. By the way, British English is the correct way to spell. Not American English.
