TriassicParker, I think it may have been a collector's item. They issued similar coins (5 shillings in think) for the coronation in the UK. Not meant to be spent. He was certainly a great batsmen but I do wonder how he would fare today with bodyline bowling a norm and having to wear all that protection. It's a whole new ball game.

TriassicParker, No. Australia has produced $5 coins, usually for special occasions. For e.g. a $5 coin for the recent anniversary of the first moon landing. They are real currency but are usually purchased as collectables (they cost a lot more than $5) so you won't get one as change when you buy some fish and chips. 😊
