What is the medical term for inflammation of the joints?

I was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at age 9. It seems medical science is improving to recognize autoimmune disorders. I hear from more people with whom I interact, from cashiers to friends of friends, about their diagnoses more often than years ago.

I suffered for decades with extreme pain in atypical places that didn't fit any doctor's scenario. Finally, a wonderful old osteopath, in frustration, handed me some Lyrica samples, and said, "Try these. If this isn't what's wrong, I'm giving up!" I took the Lyrica at home, and for the first time in years, I felt NO pain. He diagnosed my Fibromyalgia by giving me the treatment. He died not long after, but I will never forget him.
