Filmed in the middle of the Greatt Depression
What a difficult time to endure those years. I am not strong enough to have lived through those years.

Shelby Johnson
One of the few movies that are a real classic movie! No matter how old it is, it is a must see by everyone. With all of the movies being remade lately, I truly hope that they never remake this movie. There could never be a remake worthy of this movie. OZ The Great and Powerful( with Mila Kunis and James Franco) was not a remake but a prequel to the original. Therefore it didn't try to redo a classic, just add to the story. I liked the movie but don't think that James Franco should have been chosen for that role.

Also, the studio, gave teen Judy drugs to reduce appetite, as they feared the developing girl looked to old for the part, and then downers as she couldn’t sleep, beginning the spiral that would end her troubled life. I loved the movie so much, and was so saddened to read the accounts of her experience.

happydoghappycat, The movie was 10 years after the Great Depression tho the country was still feeling it affects. My grandparents would feed anyone who needed a meal at no cost or work. The movie was the first movie to use black and white as well as color. Very ingenious!

I saw Wizard of Oz at a special showing of it on the big screen at a theater in 1986 with my son, who was 7 at the time. It was an amazing experience.

Shelby Johnson, not a remake, but a "take-off", I suppose they call it, was "The Oz". Michael Jackson starred.
