I think it was the Belmont. The last race. The so called experts said Bold Rulers sons had issues with long races. Well Secretariat was a son of Bold Ruler and won by some 30 lengths.

I had my father place a $2.00 bet on Secretariat in the Preakness. I shoulda kept that ticket ... probably worth more than the few cents I made on the win!

I was 15 years old and got my father to place a bet on Secretariat to win at the Preakness for me. I wish I held onto that winning ticket instead of cashing it in for the few cents I got for the win.

Paula, I have mostly watched them on TV. I did go to Pimlico once (the track in Maryland where the Preakness is run) - I took my Mom & my aunt. I placed a few $2.00 bets - won some, lost some - came out even at the end of the day. The prospect of maybe winning something does make it more exciting.
