Poor man...can you imagine what must have been going through his mind when he realized the Titanic was going to sink.

Well I've just watched a very interesting documentary about Titanic in which the actions of the crew were not to blame, neither was her speed, her captain did everything right. Very plausible explanations as to why the Californian did not respond to distress calls and also explaining why the lookouts did not see the iceberg until last minute. I have to say after seeing this I believe Captain Smith did all he could. Very interesting.

Captain Smith was from Stoke on Trent in Staffordshire in England. It is alleged that they didn't want a statue to him out of shame. So the statue resides in Beacon Park in Lichfield, also in the county of Staffordshire.

Winemerchant65192161, that's awful he was from a time where they would have done everything to stop the ship from sinking, the masters of these large ship's in those days had to be over everything that was happening, they didn't have technology to rely on..

The Titanic was to be Captain Smith's last command. He was planning to retire after the Titanic returned to England. He wanted to spend more time with his wife & daughter. Sadly, that was not his fate.

Just this week 5 people perished touring the wreckage of the titanic in what has been reported as an inadequate submersible. 😔

Greyghost69, that’s true, I had a “near death experience “ when I was 11yo, after being hit by a car. My soul was over me next to a man ( my guardian angel) I looked up to him and said “ I’ve got to go now as my nan is calling me” next thing I was in hospital

Who knows where I read THIS tid bit? Apparently, the keys, to where the binoculars were kept, were left at home. That would explain a lot. See you on the "Googler"🤗.

Ginger, Sir Winston Churchill said famously, " I am prepared to meet my maker; whether my maker is prepared to meet me is an entire different matter..." It really doesn't matter how you die. When your time comes, you will go, and there is nothing you can do to change it. The maker only picks those whose time is up.

A bad day at the office for Capt. Smith.

nimblemoon, I think more about his reckless irresponsibility going at full speed through an area known to have icebergs.
