In the Middle Ages, surgery was usually performed by members of which trade?
Correct answer: Barbers
Larajayneedwards
They didn't mention that's why barbers still have the red and blue stripey pole... Representing the hair cut and blood for surgery!

Like a lot of the questions in this game I don't know how or why I knew that but I did!!! I like this game. It also brings back tons of memories. Hat's off to the developer's. Great game.

I love this game. What seals it, are the explanations. "Jeopardy" gives the answer and moves on. This one piques your interest and triggers memories, or related trivia, which you can post. Or read others' comments. The barber-monastery connection is a hoot!

Guzzi Gal, It was called "Theodoric, Barber of York". It featured Bill Murray, Loraine Newman, and Jane Curtain.
Bill Murray: "Theodoric, Barber of York? I was partying at the Festival of the Vernal Equinox. I must have drank a little too much mead, and I broke my leg, darting out in front of an oxcart."
Steve Martin: "Don't worry, you'll feel better after a good bleeding."
Bill: "But I'm already bleeding."
Steve: (incredulous) "Saaaay... Who's the barber here?"

Red represents arterial blood, blue veous blood and white stands for the bandages...

The only reason I got this right was because I watched Dr Quinn Medicine Woman and the town's barber was their "doctor" before Quinn came.

My great-grandad was a barber who used to dispense medical treatments. I have his hand-written A-Z book with lists of ailments and treatments including one for baldness !
His barber shop is where the men used to gather instead of the pub and would discuss intellectual matters there. So I'm told, though of course you can have intellectual debates in the pub!

I'm a barber, just like my father before me. I still have his teeth pulling tools. The blue stripe you see nowadays on barbers pole's is a modern addition to make them more colourful but should only be red and white. In 52 years I've never accidentally cut anyone and of the occasions I know about where accidents have occurred It was due to the client not keeping still. I often have to ask my clients to keep still ! Sometimes having to hold there heads still with one hand whilst I cur their hair with the other.
OzzysUndies
Larajayneedwards, I think you mean the red and white pole, red for blood and white for bandages.

I knew this because of Westerns and the barber poke where they would go to have teeth pulled. Aren't you glad we have real dentists and surgeons these days?
