Terry, Animals learn the word 'NO' pretty easy , just stern voice and repeat for same reason ! My cats learned 'no' real easily , they are well loved and the word is obeyed - no problem

I have 9 cats, all fixed and vaxxed. I've never had to *hit* them to teach them about where to scratch and not scratch. Provide proper surfaces for them to scratch on, and it won't even be an issue. They're actually quite an intelligent animal.

StaticNomad, I've heard from my next-door neighbor who loves cats and dogs. You can just spray regular tap water in their face to get them to stop whatever unwanted behavior they're doing, and they'll stop it.

They do it to intimidate and dominate the humans. Every cats most secret and private thought is the following statement: “If I were 20 pounds heavier, I could take you out, human”. P.S. I love cats anyways.

Mimi 22.Depends on where you put them. I put them up close and directly in front the furniture part I want to protect. That works for me.
