Which modern Olympic athletics record has been held the longest?
Correct answer: Men's long jump

Some question the record because Beamon did it at an altitude of around 7,400 feet, 2,250 meters. Seems hard to believe, though, that the thinner air could make a difference of 22 inches over a distance of under 30 feet, especially since the silver and bronze metalists' marks were under 27 feet and well under the existing world record which had been set at an elevation of 89 feet. I watched it on TV the day it happened and everyone was stunned.
