So happy i was raised with a lot of Polish and Italian food, I make really great gulumpki, n my area, we call it piggies in a blanket, which is beef (sometimes mixed with pork) stuffed cabbage. So if you come to my corner of the world, and a lot of other places, be prepared if you are at a picnic, faire or festival. When they offer potato pancakes or pierogies, the "piggies in a blanket" here is NOT a coctail weiner in croissant roll or pancaked with sausage... it is stuffed cabbage, and it is fantastic, as are pierogies and haluski! I learned from my Grandma, the Polish side of my family and who is my BEST friend and I miss dearly! RIP, Bochi, I love you!

Nothing defines & illustrates tradition & culture quite the way food does. Various styles, components, and methods of cooking are an example of how we are all more alike than we are different. Everyone should celebrate coming together over a good meal. Take the time to say Grace & Thanksgiving & Bless our fellow man & woman.

Missy K, what you call piggies in a blanket are what we call cabbage rolls or (excuse the spelling ) halopchi. This is a cabbage leaf stuffed with beef and rice and baked in a tomato sauce. Delicious!

Missy K,
My parents were Polish and I grew up on an Italian neighborhood, so I totally agree. I also loved Kiska and Kelbasa (excuse my spellings, but I don't write Polish).

I love pierogi but I wouldn’t really describe them as dumplings

My grandmother is Ukrainian so I grew up all of my life eating these delicious dumplings. I just recently started carrying on tradition by making these from scratch. I love perogies with cheese and potato and fried in onions and butter and dipped in sour cream! 😋

OptimisticFrog17914, I'm sure Chicago, NYC and I know Ohio have a lot. I love pierogies with cabbage inside and sauteed onions, sweeten them a bit.
