In what year was the first can opener invented?

I remember hating opening cans with that old-fashioned opener. It got so much easier with the ones with the rotating wheels. We got such in 1970s and it worked fine until quite recently (over 30 years). The new ones we buy stop working after 2-3 years!

I still have my army-issued P-38 can opener as a backup. Still works great!

I buy the pull tops when possible

Oh, the temperamental can opener! I've found that, no matter how expensive they are, they never last long so just buy the cheap ones and have one spare!
