Which disease is characterized by the body's inability to produce insulin?
Correct answer: Diabetes

Player Teresa611
The two main types of diabetes are completely different from each other. I’m talking about Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes (there are others). The type described in this question is Type 1 diabetes and should have been named as such. In Type 1 diabetes - an autoimmune disease - the pancreas no longer produces insulin. People with Type 1 diabetes are totally dependent on externally-administered insulin, either by injections or by an insulin pump. Type 1 diabetes is inevitably fatal if the patient doesn’t receive insulin. Type 2 diabetes is a totally different disease in which the pancreas is still able to produce insulin, but the body becomes resistant to it. I get very annoyed when people talk about “diabetes” without specifying which type they are referring to.

Gerald &Estie Anderson, Actually, not every diabetic uses pig insulin. Both human and animal insulin is used for treatment.
