SAZZY, I think a bear has a distinctive sort of coughing roar - when you hear it you know it’s a bear.

Its actually Stags ( as under Deer ) who are known for their roar : which may not be as loud but the Roar is more usually associated with them and they have a 'roaring season' when its mating time -
