The French used to cut those two fingers off when they captured an archer so he could no longer draw his bow. The two finger salute was an insult to the French from archers, showing them they still had their fingers and could still shoot.

Very few French were killed by arrows because their armour was barely penetrable; most were killed with hammers wielded by the English when the French horses got stuck in mud at a bottleneck beneath the hill.

supposedly the way our superior longbowmen held their arrows prior to shooting them.It was unintentionally mocking the French crossbowmen as the crossbow though very powerful took far too long to load & fire giving our men time to fire off multiple arrows.
