Unreal Neil., No. It is badly expressed, but try reading it again. It does not say they just get 17% of THEIR nourishment from plants. It says they have to eat so much each day. _because_ they only get 17% of THE nourishment that is contained within those plants. In other words 83% of what they eat and swallow is wasted. (But I imagine it fertilises the earth in their area!)
