What does pH stand for and what is pH?
Correct answer: Potential of Hydrogen
LoopyLynda74
questionableYo,man29, If you ever do any gardening sometimes its useful to check the pH of the soil as certain things grow better based upon way it goes. Sometimes also helpful to determine if this is why a certain spot may give you difficulty in why plants may die as well.

The pH of pure water is 7. In general, water with a pH lower than 7 isconsidered acidic, and with a pHgreater than 7 is considered basic. The normal range for pH in surface watersystems is 6.5 to 8.5, and the pH range for groundwater systems is between 6 to 8.5.

I knew about litmus tests and the pH scale but had no idea of the origin of pH. Geeking out over here lol

LoopyLynda74, also if your hydrangea blossoms are pink or blue.

LoopyLynda74, and if you plant Hydrangeas you get a different coloured flower depending on pH of the soil

In my chemistry class we were taught that it was "power of hydrogen". Funny that.

I can't believe I didn't know this. I love learning from the questions I fail

Player GruffSecretAg, true! I'm starting to doubt this trivia game... This is not the first question I encountered that they gave a wrong answer

I use a pH testing kit I got from Walmart to check our tap water. If it has too much chlorine then it will be yellow. I also test my filtered water to see if the filter is doing its job of removing the chlorine.

Cambelius, hydrogen has one electron.

Its the power of hydrogen according to all my arterial blood gas analysis books ;)
Cambelius
A hydrogen ion is just a bare proton, which is why it is so reactive - there are no other electrons to screen it.

I thought the pH test was done with litmus and have blue or red indicators

I was always wondering what pH stands for.

Not sure about the answer but i think it is power of hydrogen...correct me if im wrong

Player #4599789, either way the comments can be base or acidic
Karl
all of the answers are wrong. In fact, it's nowhere near a correct one. pH is the negative logarithm of the H+ ion concentration.
