Bluemoon7, in the U.S. it is actually illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk. At least in California it is. I was informed of this by a police officer who stopped me many years ago, and luckily didn't give me a ticket for doing it. That was when I learned that bike riders must follow all the same traffic rules as cars. You can get a DUI in your bike!

There should be more pavements and sidewalks .. so if there is busy traffic they can ride bikes on them rather than in traffic.
