Which component of plants is primarily responsible for absorbing nutrients from the soil?

One interesting thing about plants is that, especially those which produce fruit, drain the hydrogen needed for growth and for the fruit fiber from the air via their leaves.

Of course, Roots are as like as human's heart. If it isn't functioning, life is over.
