So, whilst all this is technically true, it didn't tarnish his name for long. He continued to write humorous novels and short stories for the next 30+ years and was massively popular in the US and the UK, still writing right up to his death at the age of 93. He was given a knighthood by his country of birth shortly before his death. So, no hard feelings...
