It kind of coincided with the battle of Gettysburg. Vicksburg, Mississippi is on the banks of the mighty Mississippi.

Gary, There is a National Civil War cemetery, museum and beautiful memorial Park in Vicksburg. I visited a couple of times. It really brings home what was sacrificed, on both sides, right or wrong. The park covers acres and acres and is the battlefield of Vicksburg. The monuments to every state are magnificent marble tributes. The natural scenery is welcoming and well maintained. I would recommend it, just not in the summer. Hot!!! MISERABLY HOT!!!
