Ouachita Parish (north la) born and raised. Moved to St. Landry Parish (south la) a year and a half ago. To add a little more trivia... A lot of people don’t realize how different the north and south are from each other her in Louisiana. Culture, religion, cuisine, language, dialect, etc. We almost see ourselves being two different states, unofficially.

Molly bear, you still don't know WHY. It's a great question, but it doesn't say WHY Louisiana is divided in parishes. That is because of the very strong influence of the Catholic church in this state...especially in and the closer you get to New Orleans. The Catholic church divides areas into parishes, and one can notice many Catholic names in our parish list: St. Bernard, St. Tammany, St. John the Baptist, St. James, etc.

Player #2802484, I lived there for 4 years, lived every minute. Culture, people and food. Left in 1985 when the oil industry crashed. Husband was a geologist. Thousands of geologists were out of work. We moved back to Fly to wait tables after husband put in 7 years of higher education, we were in 40's with 2 kids and a home we had to relinquish. That's history.

A. Battle, yes-me too. Right now my mind is asking the question: why do individuals want to share their birthplaces and current locations? I see a lot of that in this entry. Is it a deep seated need to be “known”? or a statement of pride?, or a request for friendship?? Just curious. Appreciate all opinions. 🙃

I'm a high school drop out from the 70's in California. Yet from my education in the 60's and 70''s I can answer most 98% of these questions. That testifies to the quality of our schools back then. Let's all get involved in our children's education a make it top of the line once again.
