What is the syndrome that affects survivors of poliomyelitis, decades afterwards?

My father suffers from this. Completely paralyzed in 1954 when he was 15. Rehabbed himself to walk again with a slight limp. Now at 80 the effects of post polio syndrome have him in a wheelchair. The man never complains, he is my hero ❤️

This "after" polio disease is as debilitating as polio was in the beginning. No one saw this one coming. No cure. My dear friend is now confined to a wheelchair.

My friend died from her post polio syndrome. Her mom said that her biggest regret was that she hadn't had her daughter vaccinated when she was a child because she suffered so much as an adult.

i used to be roommates with a man who was one of the six children in the US who got polio from the polio vaccination. he struggled with so many issues due to this and still does, its heartbreaking. miss u how weird... luvs

This was the cause of my husband's death. His lung muscle became too weak (so too, much of the rest of him) to pump oxygen to his brain. Only 1 doctor had any direct knowledge of polio and post polio.
