Truman certainly showed more class toward Mrs Roosevelt after FDR's death than LBJ did toward Jackie Kennedy after JFK's death.

I was 9 years old when FDR died—much mourning. I thought he would always be president when I was a child.

Player #16550689, Agreed crass...Johnson was heartless & at that point a poor representative of our country's people...I was very young, but even then, I felt Johnson had something to do with it, or knew it was going to happen!

MPD
His middle name is S, no period.

The S in Truman's name should not have a period. He did not have a middle name so it is not an initial.

Harry, Truman was one of the finest presidents we’ve ever had. He gets a bad rap for having used atomic weapons. I’d like to see what others would’ve done if they were in his shoes. Did you know that Roosevelts cabinet treated President Truman very poorly when he took office. He he took office and was uninformed about anything that was happening in the war. It was as though he was some Dom haberdasher from Missouri and he literally had to go and re-organize the cabinet and get updated from military leaders on the fly during his transition into the presidency, he was responsible along with Eisenhower for setting up better policies for transitioning into the presidency as a result of this. He also spent the later years of his life in deep depression, and the only way he could get over. It was to walk every day he was the right man at the right time to assume the presidency.

Darn, I read that "first". Got it really wrong. 😆

Amormorada22, According to a previous question involving Truman, HE always used the period as did his family. My father's middle name was one letter and he didn't use a period. We had to emphasize this to the national cemetery for accuracy. It isn't a question of grammar, it is a personal preference.

Anyone with half a brain, knows Harry S Truman, was the President, that dropped the atomic bomb. He became President when Mr. Roosevelt died, in his FOURTH term. Logic denotes, he MUST have been Vice president.
Side note: Truman's middle name was "S", It doesn't stand for anything. So, no period is needed.
