Gee, too bad everybody picked up on capitalism vs socialism, instead of the difference between the republican and democratic parties. Republicans - conservative, Democrats - liberal. That is what makes things so hard to do in US politics. Incidently, Americans are more charitable than you think BuddyBlack777' and we gave over $410 BILLION dollars in 2017, so where you get that we are selfish, I don't know. Getting back to socialism, won't work in this country, people like money too much, worked too hard to get it to just give it away to the government to give to whoever asks but doesn't always need it. If we think there is fraud going on now, just make it more available, and people will really take advantage.

Funny how the pro-socialists think its so great but rarely ever seem to actually live in a pro-socialist country, or at least not for very long. That's bc they've become too accustomed to and comfortable in everything capitalism brings with it. It's easy to cry anti-America when you're cradled in all her protections.

BuddyBlack777, there would be far less people truly in need if the government wasn't so inefficient at running the subsidies that are in place. too many layers, hands in the cookie jar, and beuacracy for the government ran programs. (not government paid. they are tax payer paid.

BuddyBlack777, The point is to choose the charity to which it goes, not the government. People should never be dependent on gov. They screw everything they touch.

It sure has made a dramatic change. It's sad. I'm independent but I used to respect the GOP. Especially it's roots and some of it's impressive people in history. They'd be turning in their graves if they knew what has become of their once-honourable party.

Mama Deb, Socialism doesn't happen by vote. Socialism happens when some megalomaniac sees it as his best way to total power. It comes with declarations of Martial Law, and the rolling of tanks through quiet neighborhoods on some silent Sunday morning.

John F. Kennedy faced down Socialism in full bloom in the Soviet Union (United Soviet SOCIALIST Republics), and he knew it well. He utterly despised Socialism, and that's something your liberal professors will never tell you.

I'm an independent. government is too big. they are supposed to come to an agreement. not drag their feet on the job. their so far apart that they don't even know where the middle is anymore. how can they possibly govern.

Teddy Roosevelt broke up trusts and supported environmental conservation and Lincoln's stance on slavery was socially liberal for the time. You'd commonly see the South vote blue and the North vote red until the mid 1900s.

There is nothing progressive about Progressives today. They are purely regressive, seeking to assert control over every aspect of every person's life. Regressive.

To suggest that everyone in America suddenly switched parties is illogical, especially when you see people hold on to their party long after their party has left them behind in search of new votes.

What you failed to mention is the fact that the Republican Party of yesteryear, is actually today’s Democratic Party. Check your history. Both Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt had the same political beliefs. The change took place between the times when each was President.

Smarterthanyou, I agree. I have no problem with people making money legally and having a fortune. Would like to find and marry one myself. My Dad grew up not well-off, but became a self made millionaire (legally) in his late thirties. He did not believe in leaving it to me & my siblings, though. Oh, well.

They wouldn't recognize their Party anymore. It has done a 180° turn, demonizing things it once supported.
