I had radioactive iodine to kill my thyroid due to it being hyperactive. Had to wear rubber gloves and use paper plates for a month due to being radioactive. Had to wear gloves to even pet my dog!

When I was 22, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Both lobes were surgically removed, followed by 2 doses of radioactive iodine to kill any remaining thyroid tissue. I'm 38 now & have been officially cancer-free for 8 years. I have annual follow-ups with endocrinology & take daily synthetic thyroid hormone.
