Grasse is the worlds largest perfume industry. My mother is from France and always wore the best perfume. Givenchy, Guerlain, Channel, Jean Patou to name a few. She was so elegant and beautiful and always smelled so divine.

4711 Echt Kölnischwasser is the name of it. They still produce it. The number is the street address number of the production plant indeed in the city of Köln in Germany.

Pchblsom, perfume is very personal, some fantastic, high end products do not work well on everyone's skin! Just because it has a Channel label does not mean it is right for you

It was very interesting watching perfume being made in France with mainly flowers and lard. This perfumery used the old school methods using fat to extract the oils from the flowers.

Also the namesake of kolsch style beer. Koln is the German name of the city (less the umlaut because I don't know how to type those :).

My mom grew up in Cologne (English spelling). She would tell us about the bank that had a fountain with the cologne water. After moving to the US after WWII, her cologne was very special to her. I cherish the memories of her when I smell it. I still have a bottle she used.

Player #4249272, you can tell you have the right scent if when you put it on (not bathe in it like some people) you don't smell it (unless you put it on your wrists and have to smell your wrist to see which perfume you are wearing) but others do.

Schnuckel09, well I heard that Napoleon rode his horse to the town of Colgne (KOLN) to get the aforementioned refresher, and they told hime they would guide the party but, he wishes for addresses, so when he arrived,he found that he could weild even such a thing as his side-arm dagger to carve 4711 into the side of the perfumérie. (Note that these numbers are more easily carved). This is a masculine smelling cologne/perfume and used by international corporations like airlines even today. Next time I will take the Koln stop on the autobaun or the high speed Eurail train.
