What is Jon's last name in the "Garfield" comics?

When I was a little girl my gramma would cut the Garfield cartoon strips from her newspaper and send them to me. Geographically we were not close and this is just one way she showed how much she loved me.

Originally, Jon had a roommate, Lyman and he was Odie's owner. Lan moved out but Jon kept Odie. Btw-Cartoonist Jim Davis named Garfield after his grandfather.

My grandma knew the owner of the original Garfield cat. The owner lived in Oklahoma and my grandma lived there most of her life.
