Yes you're right, I have the book.
Written by W C Sellar and R J Yeatman.
It's a tongue -in-cheek history of England.
Comprising "All The Parts You Can Remember, Including 103 Good Things, 5 Bad Kings, and 2 Genuine Dates"
A truly funny book and well illustrated by John Reynolds.

Jay,
It's such a shame that the castle is in such disrepair.
It should have been preserved.
I lived in Hastings from 1976 until 1984 and then from 2012 until 2019
I live in Shropshire now and Oswestry's castle is in worse shape than Hasting's.☹️

I saw the Bayeux Tapestry depicting the battle snd Harold's death. it's an amazing *story* in pictures!

I can see the remains of the castle from where I live in Hastings . The Battle of Hastings was actually fought about 5 miles north of Hastings at what is now known as Battle .

Greygranite
1066 seems to be the one battle date most easily remembered by British people for some reason!

lostiaz, I knew the answer, and I didn't even take history at school, but I do have a mum who is brilliant at all historical facts, ,(I think), well she'd have been ashamed of me if I'd have got it wrong

RushMama2112,
If my memory serves me correctly “1066 and all that “ is a comic view of history.
I could be wrong

RushMama2112
I have an English history book called "1066 and All That" which I picked up in London.
