Texans keep electing money grubbers and the poor suffer the consequences. February 2021 brought heavy snow and freezing temps. The power grid failed and people froze to death--animals, too.

Allison was worse because Houston made some improvements that helped in Harvey .... but Harvey dumped more rain. Both were devastating.

my immediate thought was Harvey too, my brother is coast guard and was working search and rescue afterwards. He said that civilians with boats were going down the streets picking up people who were stranded. I was in Michigan going to college at the time and one of the humanities groups wanted to drive down there and 'help'. what people who don't live there don't understand is that natural disaster sites don't need anymore displaced people what they need is supplies. sending 10 people down there in diesel trucks is not helping, there is no gas, there is a shortage of food, drinking water, dry clothes, places to sleep, batteries for flashlights, there is no electricity. the only reason ppl should be going down there is 1-2 ppl in a van full of supplies.

I live in Houston, but was out of the country the summer Allison hit. My parents sent me pictures of the flooding. When I showed my co-workers one of the pictures, they asked me the name of the river in the picture. I had to tell them that it wasn't a river, it was a freeway. Unfortunately, I was around for Harvey. Those were some very scary days.
