As we continue to build on or near the coastline, storms will continue to get more and more costly.

That hurricane totally destroyed my island of St. Croix, Virgin Islands. It took forever to get it back to some kind of normalcy. I still remember hearing the howling of the wind as it took my bedroom roof off🙁..... it had devastating and scary motives...

I live in upstate SC. It was the scariest thing I’ve experienced to date. I hope never to have to go through anything like that again. But one interesting thing; it spawned tornados and one hit my uncle’s storage shed. My grandmother had a plastic plant sitting on top of a chest of drawers. The shed was demolished, but the chest of drawers was still standing including the plastic plant still sitting on top.

we lived in Charlotte and it looked like a war zone afterwards. a cheap metal lawn chair was still leaning on the garage when it was over while all around was destroyed.

I moved near Charleston in January of 1990 and couldn’t believe how much damage was done and was still getting fixed. As of 2024 the big trees that were snapped like twigs are just now growing back to their former beauty.

Player Gigi #28446253, I traded earthquake-country for Tornado Alley, and, you're right--there's a lot more fear a lot more often with tornadoes.

I lived in Mt.Pleasant then, and I remember going out and looking around during the eye. We were so lucky not to have more damage. Every nail holding our roof down was pulled half way out.

Guillermo, I would never live on the east coast or the Midwest. You deal with horrific storms, hurricanes and tornadoes every year. i live on the west coast and have lived through several earthquakes, but not regularly every year. Give me an occasional shake over an annual blow!

DecemberQueen, I lived through Hugo too, losing shingles off my roof and a big willow tree in my back yard, i was so fortunate , North Carolina coast here, so much damage is done by tornadoes that are spawned by the hurricane far inland, ,all around Charlotte and through the woods of the Pee Dee river hills,Anson and Richmond county, but beautiful Charleston devastation, ,
