The question and answer was which medication was first. All that other stuff you are all talking about is GREAT information, but it is ancillary to the question. Yes it causes Reyes Syndrome, and yes it is dangerous if overdosed, but most medications have side effects and are dangerous if used improperly. Be careful with all medicines, and follow the directions your doctor and pharmacist give you. Read all directions on otc medicines, and do not over medicate yourself. If symptoms persist you should always consult your doctor, as something else might be going on. I am not a doctor but I have had enough experience with medicine to know to suggest you go to a doctor when something is wrong.

Aspirin and Vitamin A are both fatal when too much has been ingested. There's no antidote for either one. In cases of overdose, Dr.'s can only pump your stomach and hope that too much didn't get into the blood system.

🐞, times certainly have changed. In the very early 60s as a very young child I down the bottle of orange flavored st. Joseph Aspirin. Because they tasted so good. No child proof caps. Mom couldn't figure out what was wrong except that I was sitting in a corner acting kind of funny. She called the hospital ~they said bring her over here. Very dramatic. I'm here and I seem to be okay

I have von Willebrands. A fairly common, mild and often undiagnosed form of hemophilia. Took aspirin for cramps my whole life a only to learn post menopausal that aspirin just made periods worse because aspirin prolongs clotting which already doesn’t function well in my body. Now they make a hemophilia medication specifically for menstruating women.

Sameer, Aspirin isn’t an NSAID. NSAIDS are ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, meloxicam and others. Aspirin is in a class by itself. It directly inhibits platelets so thins the blood. This is why aspirin is used to prevent strokes and heart attacks— it prevents some clots from forming. It causes bleeding so has fallen out of favor. NSAIDS can cause stomach ulcers but do not inhibit platelets. Aspirin thins blood for days.

Directions on my aspirin bottle do not say, "Dissolve in water before taking."
