Who created the fictional character of Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a medical examiner?

Patricia Cornwell is a brilliant writer. Her books are truly engaging to the reader. All of her books are wonderful. If you have not read her works, I highly reccomend you do so.

I have read all 26 of the Scarpetta novels. Some are quite spellbinding and difficult to put down. Others feel like the author was rushing to make a deadline. But I dearly love the heroine and her entourage: Wesley, Marino, and Lucy. Cornwell created wonderful, engaging characters that become a part of your life.
