Got my first pair of elephant bell hiphuggers, to wear to a Jethro Tull concert, at the Goodwill store. Later I embroidery painted a vine and flowers down the right leg. Loved those jeans.

RICK-N-BACHER, also, the elephant bells I remember didn't start widening at the knee but farther up the thigh, so the whole pant leg was wide. I was told that's why they were bells, not bell bottoms.

FaithfulReader, there not the same thing, bells have a normal flair, elephant bells have an exaggerated flair that will cover your entire foot. that's why they were worn with heels

We called them monster bells. In Michigan Winters, the bottoms would get soaked from the snow with white salt stains.

i was born in 1972. there's a very popular family photo showing my mom, holding one of us twins on each side..wearing elephant bellbottoms. not only were they made from material resembling u.s. flag...but they were pleated too! delightfully ridiculous clothing😁
